Baseball’s Opening Day in New York City: Need a Limo Ride?

NYC Limo - Opening Day

With April just days away, the best time of year for fans of the great American pastime is about to begin. Major League Baseball begins its season on April 1st, and few places are better to enjoy it than New York City. There is plenty to be happy about whether you are a Mets or a Yankees fan, with both clubs opening at home, around 1pm on April 1st. The Mets will be taking on the San Diego Padres in what should be an evenly matched competition for the rebuilding New York team. The Yankees opening day matchup promises excitement as well, with the team starting a season opening series against the Red Sox.

For Mets fans, there is more of a buzz around the team than in recent years, with R.A. Dickey winning the NL Cy Young award last year, in the process becoming the first knuckle baller to win the award, just the third Met, and the first since 1985. Dickey is now in Toronto, so Mets fans will need to find something else to cheer about, but it seems they are not having much trouble. Recent articles point to a new group called “The 7 Line Army,” made up of just shy of 900 fans in a central location of Citi Field, armed with matching shirts and thunder-sticks. Started by the founder of t-shirt company The 7 Line, who’s business focuses on Mets themed gear, The 7 Line Army is a group for fans of the company’s clothing, and, of course, the Mets.  This year, they’ll be at Citi Field for opening day, and again on April 20th for a game against the Washington Nationals. The group is even planning a trip to Chicago, some 400 strong, to cheer for the Mets against the Cubs at Wrigley field.

The Yankees have plenty to be excited about with the coming season, with their perennial World Series hopes blooming again this spring. The trouble is that, after some concerning injury developments in spring training in Tampa, Florida, the team is coming into the season in less than top form. Team captain Derek Jeter, among others, is having trouble as the season opener looms. All that just means that the fan support at Yankee Stadium will be all the more important when the Bronx Bombers start the season with a series against their AL East division rivals, the Boston Red Sox. The opening day game promises to be a good one, along the whole series, the winner getting an early leg up in the division.

No matter the game you are planning on attending, if you are looking for a way to avoid the hassle of driving, or taking mass transit, to the stadium, give Gotham Limousine a call. Whether you are a Mets or Yankees fan, we can help make your MLB Opening Day experience a great one.
