Tips From a New York Limo Company on Surviving NYC

Post 64 of 142

New York is a fast paced city that can be difficult to grasp. First off don’t become overwhelmed, all you need to do is relax and take things one step at a time. Our New York Limo service wants to offer some advice on how to survive the Big Apple.

1.     Being mugged is a real possibility, but it is best to avoid the chance all together. Keep your wallet in the front of your jeans, don’t travel alone, and try not to look like a tourist. Basically be smart, keep your phones and valuables stowed, and you will be alright.

2.    When you get into a subway car, move to the middle. Do not stand in the way of others. You will have more than enough time to get off at your stop. By making room for others and being courteous you can expect the same back.

3.    When you are not sure where you are at or where you need to go, move off to the side. Do not stand in the middle of the walk path. Standing in everyone’s way will label you as a tourist as well as earn you some nasty looks.

4.    Make sure that you get on the bus at the front end and get off at the back. This is an unspoken time saving method that is very common in big cities. It also keeps inner-bus traffic down.

5.    If you are riding an escalator and are not walking, move to the right. Make sure any luggage you are carrying is in front of you and not in the way as it will only serve to annoy the locals if they cannot get around you.

6.    Carry your Metro Card in hand and ready to swipe when you reach the subway turnstile. You will make no friends by making locals miss their bus because you had to dig around for your Metro Card.

7.    Driving is not recommended in the Big Apple. You should take a New York Limo to where you want to be. If that is not an option however make sure that when you near an intersection that you leave space between you and the car in front of you. You do not want to get stuck at a red light blocking the intersection or crosswalk.

8.    Another walking path guideline is to not walk two people across. This can be an issue sometimes, but it will keep you from preventing the locals from getting to where they need to go.

These are some basic tips that will help you survive the Big Apple. It is not as bad as some make it seem, but it can be overwhelming. If you use your head and more or less, blend in, you will be fine. Our New York Limo would love to help you out if you are visiting the city for the first time so check us out.
