New York City Transportation | New York Limousine Service

New York City is world famous and large to say the least. It can be more than a little difficult to traverse if you don’t know what you’re doing whether you are a local or visiting. Gotham’s New York Limousine Service wants to help those who may just need a bit of information on the various methods of getting around the Big Apple.

Cars

Driving yourself around the city is really rather inadvisable. Finding any kind of parking is more than a little difficult and is extremely overpriced if you manage to find a spot. The local drivers are aggressive to the point of being dangerous to travelers. If you are planning a visit, you are better off finding a different way to traverse the city that at least involves a paid and experienced driver.

Taxi

There are 2 kinds of cabs that you will encounter in the big city, the Yellow Cabs and Livery or Black Cars. Yellow cabs are your typical cabs that are actually Yellow more often than not. The fare for these cabs is $2.50 plus a $0.50 state tax to start, followed by $0.40 for every fifth of a mile. There is also a night surcharge that from 8PM to AM of $0.50 and a rush hour surcharge during rush hour of $1 from 4PM to 8PM Monday through Friday. They do accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express for payment and will let you know if their card reader is down before you get in.

The Black or Livery Cars are car services or livery cabs. They can only be reached by phone and typically have a flat rate rather than a metered one. They are typically not allowed to cruise around for fares although sometimes they will anyway. Remember with both kinds of cabs that tipping is expected.

New York Limousine Service

If you are in need of a long term drive or want to travel in style and comfort, hiring a New York Limousine Service is a good idea. They come in many different sizes and can fit your needs with little trouble. In addition to a luxury ride, you get the services of an experienced chauffer to take you to your destination, even if you just want to drive around and see the city. New York Limos are a great alternative to taxis in the right situations so be sure to weigh your options before choosing either.

Public Transit

When it comes to the various buses and subway systems that make up the public transit system one thing is absolute. You need a Metro Card. Metro Cards come in a few different types that are good for you to know.  A Single Ride Metro Card is just what it sounds like. They cost $2.50 and are good for one use and is only valid for the next 2 hours. Pay per ride Metro Cards cost from $4.50 to $80 depending on your need. When you use the card the system of choice deducts their cost from your card. Unlimited Ride Metro Cards come in a 7 day ($29) and a 30 day ($104) variety. These can be more expensive, but if you use the systems enough can be worth it, do yourself a favor and do the math to see which is better.
