Staying Cool This Summer With A New York Limo

Post 78 of 142

Summers are hot and this year is no exception in the city of New York. New York can be up to 10 degrees hotter than the surrounding areas and the record high in Central Park is 106 degrees. New Yorkers take the heat index very seriously and when it gets too high a heat emergency is declared and everyone tries to conserve energy to avoid a blackout. Our New York Limo Service has some tips on how to beat the heat this year and to keep you and your loved ones safe.

1. Stay out of the sun if you can and avoid strenuous activity at the sun’s peak between 11am and 4pm. It’s best to plan activities and events in the evening as it will be much cooler.

2. Make sure you wear sunscreen at least 15 SPF and a hat. You want to protect your head and skin from the sun’s rays with at least a New York Limo.

3. Lightweight, loose fitting, light colored clothing will be a life saver. You want to keep skin covered yet stay cool.

4. Do your best to avoid alcohol or caffeine as they can be the cause of dehydration.

5. Keep up with your water intake, this can be extremely important. Even when you don’t feel thirsty you need to drink water.

6. Swimming at a pool or the beach is a great way to cool off. When a heat emergency is called most pools and beaches stay open for longer and some even become free.

7. Cooling centers are located around the 5 boroughs for when a heat emergency is called. These centers are air conditioned areas where anyone can go to cool off and get some water.

8. Take a cold shower. This is a great way to cool off but be aware that cooling down too quickly can cause dizziness or nausea.

9. Never ever leave children or pets in a car during a heat wave. This happens more often than we would care to think about and the results are not pretty.

10.  Keep an eye out for heat exhaustion or heat stroke in yourself and the people around you. If you come up with a case do not hesitate to call 911. A trained professional being there one minute earlier can make all the difference in an emergency.

11.  Hire a New York Limo for a big day out instead of walking. Having a chauffeur can add to the fun of the day and will keep you safe.

12.  To avoid using too much energy and straining the power infrastructure set your AC to no lower than 78 degrees and don’t have it on when you are not home. A timer can be set so that it’s on before you get home. You should avoid unnecessary expenditures of energy so turn off what you don’t need.

Staying cool during the summer is very important as heat exhaustion is a very serious problem. Our New York Limo Service wants to help out and keep people safe this summer so don’t hesitate to call and stay cool everyone.
